Sceilg Mhichíl
Sceilg Mhichíl, also known as Skellig Michael, is a small, rocky island located off the southwestern coast of Ireland. It is part of the Skellig Islands and is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and rich biodiversity. The island rises dramatically from the Atlantic Ocean and features steep cliffs, diverse wildlife, and unique plant species.
The island is also famous for its ancient monastic settlement, which dates back to the 6th century. The monks built beehive-shaped stone huts and established a community dedicated to prayer and contemplation. Sceilg Mhichíl was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, recognizing its cultural and historical significance.
