Sarikamish Operation
The Sarikamish Operation was a military campaign conducted by the Ottoman Empire during World War I from December 1914 to January 1915. The objective was to capture the Russian city of Sarıkamış in eastern Anatolia. The operation aimed to secure the eastern front and bolster Ottoman control over the region.
The campaign faced severe challenges, including harsh winter conditions and logistical issues. The Ottoman forces, under the command of Enver Pasha, suffered significant losses due to frostbite and inadequate supplies. Ultimately, the operation ended in failure, leading to a retreat and a shift in the balance of power in the region.
