Sandhills
The Sandhills are a unique geographical region located in central Nebraska, characterized by rolling sand dunes and grasslands. This area was formed by wind-blown sand deposits and is home to a variety of ecosystems, including prairies and wetlands. The Sandhills cover approximately 19,600 square miles, making it one of the largest sand dune regions in the United States.
The region supports diverse wildlife, including species like the plains bison and various bird species. The Sandhills are also significant for agriculture, particularly for cattle ranching and hay production, due to the nutrient-rich grasses that thrive in the sandy soil.
