San José mine
The San José mine is a gold and silver mine located near Copiapó in northern Chile. It gained international attention in 2010 when 33 miners were trapped underground for 69 days. The rescue operation, known as "Operación San Lorenzo," involved drilling a borehole to bring the miners to safety.
The mine operates under the management of Minera San Esteban Primera and is known for its rich mineral deposits. It has a history of mining activity dating back to the 19th century and continues to be an important site for mineral extraction in the region.
