Samudra Manthan
Samudra Manthan, or the Churning of the Ocean, is a significant event in Hindu mythology. It describes the process where the gods (Devas) and demons (Asuras) collaborated to churn the cosmic ocean (Kshira Sagara) to obtain the nectar of immortality, known as amrita. They used the serpent Vasuki as a rope and Mount Mandara as the churning rod.
During the churning, various treasures and beings emerged from the ocean, including the Kalpavriksha (wish-fulfilling tree) and Lakshmi (goddess of wealth). The event symbolizes the struggle between good and evil, highlighting the importance of cooperation and balance in the universe.
