Sambucus Nigra (Elder)
Sambucus nigra, commonly known as elder or elderberry, is a flowering plant belonging to the Adoxaceae family. It is native to Europe, North America, and parts of Asia. The plant typically grows as a shrub or small tree, reaching heights of 10 to 30 feet. Its clusters of small white or cream flowers bloom in late spring and are followed by dark purple-black berries in late summer.
Elderberries are often used in traditional medicine and culinary applications, such as jams, jellies, and syrups. The flowers and berries contain antioxidants and vitamins, but raw berries can be toxic if consumed in large quantities. Proper cooking or processing is essential to make them safe for consumption.
