Sambar deer
The Sambar deer is a large species of deer native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. They are known for their distinctive shaggy brown fur and large, antlered males. Sambar deer typically inhabit forests, grasslands, and wetlands, where they feed on a variety of vegetation, including leaves, fruits, and grasses.
These deer are social animals, often found in small groups, although males tend to be more solitary, especially during the breeding season. Sambar deer play a crucial role in their ecosystem by helping to maintain plant diversity and serving as prey for large predators like the Bengal tiger and Indian leopard.
