Sama Ceremony
The Sama Ceremony is a spiritual practice rooted in the Mevlevi Order, a Sufi sect founded by the followers of the Persian poet Rumi. This ceremony involves a form of meditation through music and dance, where participants, known as whirling dervishes, spin in a circular motion. The dance symbolizes the soul's journey towards divine love and unity with the universe.
During the ceremony, traditional instruments like the ney (a type of flute) and drums accompany the dancers. The event is often held in a dergah (a Sufi lodge) and aims to create a transcendent experience for both performers and spectators, fostering a sense of peace and connection.
