Salmo
Salmo is a genus of fish that includes various species of salmon and trout. These fish are primarily found in the northern hemisphere, particularly in cold, freshwater environments. Salmo species are known for their importance in both ecological systems and human economies, as they are popular targets for fishing and aquaculture.
The most well-known species within the Salmo genus include Salmo salar, or Atlantic salmon, and Salmo trutta, or brown trout. These fish are characterized by their streamlined bodies and are often recognized for their migratory behavior, where they travel from freshwater rivers to the ocean and back to spawn.
