Saint Rose of Lima
Saint Rose of Lima, born on April 20, 1586, in Lima, Peru, is the first canonized saint of the Americas. She was known for her deep devotion to God and her commitment to helping the poor. Rose took a vow of virginity and dedicated her life to prayer and service, often caring for the sick and needy in her community.
She became a member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic and lived a life of austerity, often fasting and performing penances. Saint Rose was canonized by Pope Clement IX in 1671, and her feast day is celebrated on August 23.
