Saint Rafqa
Saint Rafqa, also known as Rafqa Pietra Choboq Ar-Rayès, was a Lebanese Maronite nun born in 1832. She dedicated her life to God and the service of others, joining the Maronite Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1851. Known for her deep spirituality and commitment to prayer, she spent much of her life in solitude and contemplation.
Rafqa is celebrated for her extraordinary patience and suffering, particularly after a serious illness left her blind and paralyzed. She was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2001, and her feast day is observed on March 23. Saint Rafqa is venerated as a patron saint of the sick and those suffering from chronic illnesses.
