Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was the first native-born American to be canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church. Born on August 28, 1774, in New York City, she was a devoted mother and widow. After converting to Catholicism in 1805, she founded the first Catholic school in the United States and established the Sisters of Charity, a religious community dedicated to education and charitable works.
She is celebrated for her commitment to education and her role in shaping the Catholic school system in America. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was canonized on September 14, 1975, and her feast day is observed on January 4.
