Saint Damien
Saint Damien, also known as Father Damien, was a Belgian priest born on January 3, 1840. He is best known for his missionary work in the Hawaiian Islands, particularly on the island of Molokai, where he dedicated his life to caring for individuals suffering from leprosy. His compassion and commitment to the marginalized earned him recognition and respect.
In 1889, Saint Damien himself contracted leprosy but continued to serve the community until his death on April 15, 1889. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009, and his feast day is celebrated on May 10. Saint Damien is remembered for his selfless dedication and humanitarian efforts.
