Sahib (Honorific)
"Sahib" is an honorific title used in South Asia, particularly in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. It is derived from the Arabic word "sahib," meaning "companion" or "friend." Traditionally, it has been used to show respect towards men, especially those in positions of authority or social standing.
In colonial contexts, "Sahib" was often used by locals to address British officials and expatriates. Over time, its usage has evolved, and while it still conveys respect, it can also carry connotations of colonialism. Today, it is sometimes used informally among friends or in a more casual context.
