Sac and Fox
The Sac and Fox are two Native American tribes originally from the Great Lakes region of the United States. The Sac, also known as the Sauk, and the Fox, or Meskwaki, share a common history and culture. They were known for their agricultural practices, hunting, and trading, and they played significant roles in the early interactions with European settlers.
In the 19th century, both tribes faced forced removal from their ancestral lands due to U.S. expansion. Many members relocated to present-day Iowa and Oklahoma. Today, the Sac and Fox tribes are recognized as sovereign nations, preserving their cultural heritage and traditions while engaging in modern economic activities.
