SS Andrea Doria
The SS Andrea Doria was an Italian ocean liner launched in 1951. It was named after a 16th-century Genoese admiral and was known for its luxurious amenities and elegant design. The ship was part of the Italian Line and primarily operated transatlantic voyages between Italy and New York City.
On July 26, 1956, the Andrea Doria collided with the MS Stockholm off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The accident resulted in the sinking of the Andrea Doria, leading to the loss of 46 lives. Despite the tragedy, many passengers were rescued, showcasing the bravery of the crew and nearby vessels.
