SRY Gene
The SRY gene (Sex-determining Region Y) is a gene located on the Y chromosome that plays a crucial role in male sex determination. It produces a protein that triggers the development of male characteristics by initiating the formation of the testes, which then produce male hormones like testosterone.
When the SRY gene is active, it leads to the development of male reproductive organs. In the absence of the SRY gene, the default pathway is female development, resulting in the formation of ovaries and female reproductive structures. This gene is essential for understanding human sex differentiation and related genetic conditions.
