Testis Development
Testis development begins during embryonic growth, primarily influenced by the presence of the Y chromosome. The SRY gene, located on the Y chromosome, triggers the formation of Sertoli cells, which are essential for testis formation. These cells help organize the developing testis and support the formation of germ cells, which will eventually develop into sperm.
As the testis matures, it undergoes several stages, including the formation of Leydig cells, which produce testosterone. This hormone is crucial for the development of male reproductive structures and secondary sexual characteristics. Proper testis development is vital for fertility and overall male health.
