SMB Protocol
The SMB Protocol, or Server Message Block Protocol, is a network communication protocol primarily used for sharing files, printers, and other resources on a local area network. It allows applications to read and write to files and request services from server programs. SMB operates over the TCP/IP protocol, making it widely compatible with various operating systems.
Originally developed by IBM in the 1980s, the SMB Protocol has evolved through several versions, with Microsoft playing a significant role in its development. It is commonly used in Windows environments but is also supported by other systems, including Linux and macOS, facilitating cross-platform file sharing and resource access.
