Round Towers of Ireland
The Round Towers of Ireland are tall, cylindrical stone structures that date back to the early medieval period, primarily between the 9th and 12th centuries. These towers, typically found near monasteries, served multiple purposes, including as bell towers, places of refuge during attacks, and storage for valuable items.
Standing between 20 to 30 meters high, the towers are characterized by their narrow windows and conical roofs. While many of these structures are located in County Meath and County Kerry, they can be found throughout the country, showcasing Ireland's rich architectural heritage and historical significance.
