Round Tower of Kildare
The Round Tower of Kildare is a historic stone structure located in Kildare, Ireland. Built in the 12th century, it served as a bell tower for the nearby Kildare Cathedral and a place of refuge during attacks. The tower stands approximately 30 meters tall and features a distinctive conical roof.
This round tower is one of the best-preserved examples of its kind in Ireland. It originally had six stories, with a doorway positioned high above the ground, making it difficult for intruders to access. The tower is an important symbol of Ireland's medieval ecclesiastical architecture.
