Romberg
The Romberg test is a clinical assessment used to evaluate a person's balance and proprioception. During the test, an individual stands with their feet together and eyes closed. The examiner observes for any swaying or loss of balance, which can indicate issues with the vestibular system, cerebellum, or sensory pathways.
This test is commonly used in neurology to help diagnose conditions affecting balance, such as multiple sclerosis or peripheral neuropathy. A positive Romberg sign, where the person sways or falls, suggests a problem with the body's ability to sense its position in space.
