Roman Theatre of Orange
The Roman Theatre of Orange is an ancient Roman theater located in the town of Orange, in the Vaucluse department of France. Built in the first century AD, it is one of the best-preserved Roman theaters in the world, featuring a large semi-circular seating area and a stunning backdrop wall. The theater could accommodate around 9,000 spectators and was used for various performances, including plays and musical events.
In 1981, the Roman Theatre of Orange was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its historical and architectural significance. Today, it continues to host performances, including the annual Chorégies d'Orange festival, celebrating classical music and opera in a remarkable historical setting.
