Roman Clothing
Roman clothing varied based on social status and occasion. The basic garment for men was the tunic, a simple knee-length shirt made of wool or linen. Wealthy Romans often wore a toga, a large, draped cloth that signified citizenship. Women typically wore a stola, a long dress that indicated their marital status, often paired with a palla, a shawl for added modesty.
Colors and fabrics also played a significant role in Roman attire. Common citizens wore simpler, undyed materials, while the elite adorned themselves in vibrant colors and luxurious fabrics like silk. Accessories such as sandals and jewelry further distinguished social classes, reflecting the wearer's wealth and status.
