Roger Mortimer was a prominent English nobleman and military leader during the 14th century. Born around 1287, he became the 1st Earl of March and played a significant role in the political landscape of England. Mortimer was known for his opposition to King Edward II and was involved in various conflicts, including the Despenser War.
In 1327, Mortimer was instrumental in the deposition of Edward II, which led to the rise of Queen Isabella and her lover, Roger Mortimer. Together, they effectively ruled England for a time, but Mortimer's ambition ultimately led to his downfall. He was captured and executed in 1330.
