Robert O'Hara Burke
Robert O'Hara Burke was an Irish explorer known for leading the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition across Australia in the 1860s. Born in 1820, he served in the British Army before moving to Australia, where he became involved in exploration. His goal was to traverse the continent from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The expedition, which began in 1860, faced numerous challenges, including harsh weather and food shortages. Although Burke and his team reached the northern coast, they struggled to return safely. Ultimately, the expedition ended in tragedy, with Burke and several members perishing before help arrived.
