Ringfort
A ringfort is a type of ancient fortified settlement commonly found in Ireland and Britain. These structures typically consist of a circular or oval enclosure surrounded by a bank or ditch, providing protection to the inhabitants. Ringforts were primarily built during the early medieval period and served as homes for families or communities.
The construction of a ringfort often involved wooden or stone walls, and they were strategically located on elevated ground for better defense. Many ringforts are associated with Celtic culture and are believed to have been used for agricultural purposes, as well as for protection against invaders.
