Right Heart Failure
Right heart failure occurs when the right side of the heart cannot pump blood effectively to the lungs. This can lead to a buildup of fluid in the body, particularly in the legs, abdomen, and liver. Common causes include coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, and lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Symptoms of right heart failure may include swelling in the ankles and feet, shortness of breath, and fatigue. Diagnosis typically involves physical exams, imaging tests like echocardiograms, and blood tests. Treatment options may include medications, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, surgical interventions.
