Alexander Ypsilantis
Alexander Ypsilantis was a Greek nobleman and military leader born in 1792. He is best known for his role in the early stages of the Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire. Ypsilantis led the Filiki Eteria, a secret society aimed at liberating Greece, and he initiated the uprising in 1821.
Ypsilantis's campaign began in Moldavia, where he sought to rally support for the Greek cause. Despite initial successes, his forces faced significant challenges, leading to his eventual retreat. He later lived in exile and died in 1828, leaving a legacy as a symbol of Greek nationalism and resistance.
