Ribat
A Ribat is a fortified structure or military outpost built during the early Islamic period, primarily to defend against invasions and to serve as a base for military campaigns. These establishments were often located along trade routes or borders, providing security and support for travelers and merchants.
In addition to their military function, ribats also served as centers for religious education and community gathering. They were places where scholars and religious leaders, such as Sufis, could teach and spread Islamic teachings, contributing to the cultural and spiritual life of the region.
