Rib Fractures
Rib fractures are breaks in one or more of the ribs, which are the bones that form the rib cage. They often occur due to trauma, such as a fall, car accident, or sports injury. Symptoms typically include sharp pain in the chest, especially when breathing, coughing, or moving.
Most rib fractures heal on their own within six weeks. Treatment usually focuses on pain management and may include over-the-counter pain relievers or ice packs. In severe cases, such as when a rib punctures a lung, medical intervention may be necessary to prevent complications.
