Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army (FARC) is a Marxist-Leninist guerrilla group founded in 1964. Initially formed to advocate for rural workers' rights, it evolved into a significant armed force involved in Colombia's internal conflict, which lasted over five decades. FARC has been known for its involvement in drug trafficking, kidnappings, and violent confrontations with the Colombian government.
In 2016, FARC signed a peace agreement with the Colombian government, leading to its transformation into a political party. This agreement aimed to end hostilities and promote social and economic development in Colombia. Despite the peace process, some dissident factions continue to engage in armed activities.
