Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) is a Marxist-Leninist guerrilla group founded in 1964. Initially formed to promote agrarian reform and social justice, FARC engaged in armed conflict against the Colombian government for decades. The group was involved in various illegal activities, including drug trafficking and kidnapping, to fund its operations.
In 2016, FARC signed a peace agreement with the Colombian government, leading to its disarmament and transformation into a political party. This historic agreement aimed to end over 50 years of conflict and promote reconciliation in Colombia, although challenges remain in fully implementing the peace process.
