Repressed Memory
Repressed memory is a psychological phenomenon where an individual unconsciously blocks out memories of traumatic events. This can occur as a defense mechanism to protect the person from emotional pain or distress associated with those memories. The repressed memories may remain inaccessible for years and can resurface later, sometimes triggered by specific events or therapy.
The concept of repressed memory is often discussed in relation to trauma, psychotherapy, and memory recovery techniques. While some psychologists believe in the validity of repressed memories, others caution against their reliability, as they can be influenced by suggestion or leading questions during therapy.
