Repressed Memories
Repressed memories are memories that have been unconsciously blocked due to the emotional trauma associated with them. This psychological defense mechanism can occur after distressing events, such as abuse or accidents, where the mind protects itself by pushing the painful memories out of conscious awareness.
These memories may resurface later in life, often triggered by certain experiences or therapy. While some psychologists believe in the validity of repressed memories, others caution that they can be influenced by suggestion or therapy techniques, leading to false memories. Understanding this phenomenon is important in fields like psychology and trauma therapy.
