Remonstrant
A "Remonstrant" refers to a member of the Remonstrant Brotherhood, a Protestant group that emerged in the early 17th century in the Netherlands. This group is known for its opposition to the strict Calvinist doctrine of predestination, advocating instead for the belief in free will and the possibility of salvation for all individuals.
The Remonstrants formulated their views in a document called the Remonstrance in 1610, which outlined their theological positions. Their beliefs led to significant theological debates, particularly at the Synod of Dort in 1618-1619, where their views were ultimately rejected by the majority of the Reformed churches.
