Remonstrant Brotherhood
The Remonstrant Brotherhood is a Protestant Christian group that emerged in the early 17th century in the Netherlands. It was founded by followers of Jacob Arminius, who challenged the strict Calvinist doctrines of predestination. The group advocates for free will and the belief that God's grace is available to all, not just the elect.
In 1610, the Remonstrants presented their beliefs in a document known as the Remonstrance, which outlined their theological positions. This led to significant religious conflict, culminating in the Synod of Dort (1618-1619), where their views were ultimately rejected. Despite this, the Remonstrant Brotherhood continues to exist today, promoting a more inclusive interpretation of Christianity.
