Relative Pitch
Relative pitch is the ability to identify or recreate a musical note based on its relationship to another note. This skill allows musicians to recognize intervals, which are the distances between notes, and to understand how different notes sound together. It is often developed through practice and ear training, making it an essential tool for composers and performers.
Unlike absolute pitch, which is the ability to identify a note without any reference, relative pitch relies on context. Musicians with relative pitch can easily determine whether a note is higher or lower than another, helping them to play in tune and harmonize effectively in various musical settings.
