Refugees and Displaced Persons
Refugees and displaced persons are individuals who have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict, persecution, or natural disasters. Refugees specifically seek safety in another country, often fleeing violence or threats to their lives. They are protected under international law and may receive assistance from organizations like the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Displaced persons, on the other hand, remain within their own country but are unable to return home due to similar dangers. These individuals may be referred to as internally displaced persons (IDPs). Both groups face significant challenges, including lack of shelter, food, and access to healthcare.
