The Red-throated Loon is a medium-sized aquatic bird known for its distinctive red throat during the breeding season. It has a slender body, pointed bill, and a grayish-brown plumage that helps it blend into its surroundings. This species is commonly found in northern regions, particularly in North America and Eurasia, where it breeds in freshwater lakes and coastal areas.
During migration, the Red-throated Loon travels to coastal waters, where it can be seen diving for fish. It is an excellent swimmer and can stay underwater for up to a minute while hunting. This bird is known for its haunting calls, which can often be heard during the breeding season.
