Common Loon
The Common Loon is a large aquatic bird known for its striking black and white plumage and distinctive haunting calls. It is primarily found in northern regions of North America during the breeding season, often nesting on freshwater lakes. The loon is an excellent swimmer and diver, using its webbed feet to propel itself underwater in search of fish and other aquatic prey.
During the winter months, the Common Loon migrates to coastal marine environments, where it can be seen in ocean waters. This bird is known for its unique ability to produce a variety of vocalizations, which play a crucial role in communication and territory establishment among loons.
