Red-Figure
Red-figure is a style of ancient Greek pottery that emerged around the late 6th century BCE. In this technique, figures are painted in a red slip on a black background, allowing for greater detail and realism in the depiction of human forms and scenes. This method contrasts with the earlier black-figure technique, where figures were painted in black on the natural red clay of the pot.
The red-figure style enabled artists to use fine brushwork to create intricate details, such as facial expressions and clothing patterns. Notable examples of red-figure pottery include works by famous vase painters like Euphronios and Exekias, who contributed significantly to the development of this art form.
