R-22
R-22, also known as HCFC-22, is a refrigerant commonly used in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. It is a colorless gas that helps cool indoor spaces by absorbing heat. However, R-22 is being phased out due to its harmful effects on the ozone layer, which protects the Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation.
As part of the Montreal Protocol, a global agreement to reduce substances that deplete the ozone layer, the production and import of R-22 have been significantly reduced since 2010. Alternatives, such as R-410A and R-32, are now being used in new systems to minimize environmental impact.
