Homonym: Qurbani (Sacrifice)
Qurbani, also known as Udhiyah, is an Islamic practice that involves the ritual sacrifice of an animal during the festival of Eid al-Adha. This act commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Isma'il in obedience to God's command. The sacrifice typically involves sheep, goats, cows, or camels, and is performed after the Eid prayer.
The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts: one-third is given to the needy, one-third is shared with relatives and friends, and the remaining third is kept for the family. This practice emphasizes charity, community, and gratitude, reinforcing the values of sharing and compassion in Islam.
