Quilapayún
Quilapayún is a Chilean folk music group formed in 1965, known for its role in the Nueva Canción Chilena movement. The group combines traditional Latin American music with political themes, often addressing social issues and advocating for change through their songs. Their name means "a thousand flowers" in the Mapuche language, reflecting their cultural roots.
The ensemble typically features vocal harmonies and a variety of instruments, including guitars and charangos. Quilapayún gained international recognition for their powerful performances and contributions to music during the political turmoil in Chile, especially during the presidency of Salvador Allende.
