Queen Padmavati
Queen Padmavati, also known as Padmini, is a legendary figure in Indian history and folklore, particularly associated with the kingdom of Mewar in the 13th century. She is celebrated for her beauty, intelligence, and bravery. The story of Padmavati is most famously depicted in the epic poem "Padmavat" by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, which narrates her life and the challenges she faced.
According to the legend, Padmavati was the wife of Raja Ratan Singh and became the target of the invader Alauddin Khilji, who sought to capture her. To protect her honor and that of her kingdom, Padmavati and the women of Mewar chose to perform Jauhar, a ritual of self-immolation, rather than be captured. Her tale symbolizes valor and sacrifice in Indian culture.
