Padmini
Padmini, also known as Rani Padmini, is a legendary figure in Indian history, particularly associated with the kingdom of Mewar in the 13th century. She is often celebrated for her beauty and bravery, becoming a symbol of honor and sacrifice. The story of Padmini is famously depicted in the epic poem Padmavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, which narrates her life and the siege of her fort by the Sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khilji.
According to the legend, Padmini was the wife of Raja Ratan Singh, the ruler of Chittor. When Khilji sought to capture her, she chose to commit jauhar, a ritual self-immolation, rather than be captured. Her tale has inspired various adaptations in literature, art, and cinema, making her an enduring symbol of valor and sacrifice in Indian culture.
