King Kalākaua
King Kalākaua was the last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom, serving from 1874 until his death in 1891. He is known for promoting Hawaiian culture and traditions, as well as for his efforts to strengthen the kingdom's economy and international relations. His reign saw the establishment of the {Hawaiian National Guard} and the construction of the {Iolani Palace}, which became a symbol of Hawaiian royalty.
Kalākaua was also a patron of the arts and music, famously hosting the {Merrie Monarch Festival} to celebrate Hawaiian culture. He traveled extensively, visiting the United States and Europe, which helped to raise awareness of Hawaii's unique heritage. His legacy continues to influence Hawaiian identity today.
