Queen Catherine
Queen Catherine, often referred to as Catherine of Aragon, was the first wife of King Henry VIII of England. Born in 1485, she was the daughter of King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile. Catherine was originally married to Henry's older brother, Arthur, but after his death, she married Henry in 1509. Their marriage lasted for over two decades.
Catherine is best known for her strong character and devout Catholic faith. She gave birth to several children, but only one, Mary I, survived infancy. Her inability to produce a male heir led to Henry's desire for an annulment, which ultimately resulted in the English Reformation and the establishment of the Church of England.
