Pyu people
The Pyu people were an ancient ethnic group that inhabited the region of present-day Myanmar from around the 1st century BCE to the 9th century CE. They are known for establishing several city-states, including Sri Ksetra, which was a significant urban center. The Pyu were influenced by Indian culture, adopting aspects of Buddhism and trade practices.
The Pyu language is part of the Sino-Tibetan language family, but it is now extinct. Archaeological findings, such as inscriptions and artifacts, provide insights into their society, economy, and religious practices. The decline of the Pyu people is believed to be linked to the rise of the Bamar people and other regional powers.
